Priorities

  • Public Safety – Fire / Police / Emergency Management are the foundation of any community

  • Infrastructure – These are at the forefront of a resident’s daily life and give an immediate impression of health and well being

  • Roads and Transportation – Building, maintaining, and repairing streets, sidewalks, public transit, and traffic control systems

  • Utilities – Managing or coordinating services like water, sewage, stormwater, electricity, or gas

  • Public Assets – Maintaining city halls, libraries, recreation centers, and other public areas/facilities

  • Land Management and Planning – This is the bulk of the focus for a city council. Creating and enforcing zoning laws, land use policies, housing intentions, and building codes. Approving development projects and managing growth and land use.

  • Environmental Management – After public safety, public works, and land management are addressed, managing parks, green spaces, and conservation areas becomes essential. Promoting sustainability, wildlife corridors, tree canopy, shoreline preservation, and enforcing environmental regulations.

  • Recreation and Cultural Services – For a city to feel like a community, recreation and cultural services are important. Providing community events, sports areas, and arts programs. Managing recreational facilities like trails and common areas.

  • Economic Development – Property taxes are augmented by economic vibrancy. Attracting businesses, supporting local economic growth, and improving job opportunities. Managing visitors and commercial development.

  • Administration and Governance – Good governance pulls all the elements together cohesively. Fiscal responsibility. Enforcing local laws and ordinances. Collecting taxes and fees. Holding city council meetings and ensuring public input in decision-making.
